Toba's Lake is a vulkanik lake with 100 kilometers length and 30 kilometers wide, located in North Sumatera, Indonesia. In the middle of this lake there is an vulkanik island called Samosir island.
Toba's Lake become a key tourist destination in North Sumatra, in addition to Bukit Lawang and Nias, attracting domestic and foreign tourists.
Estimated to Lake Toba explosion occurred at about 73000-75000 years ago and is bursting supervolcano, which is new. Bill Rose and Craig Chesner from Michigan Technological University estimate that the exploted vulkanik material of 2800 km ³, with 800 km ³ ignimbrit rock and 2000 km ³ of vulkanik dust, and its estimated taked by wind to the west for 2 weeks. Vulkanik dust that taked by wind has spread to half the earth, from China to South Africa. explosion going for 1 week and reached 10 km above sea level for the dust explosion.
After the explosion, the kaldera form which is then filled by water and has become Toba's Lake. Pressure up by magma that has not come out caused of Samosir Island.
Toba's lake is so wonderful, the lake is surrounded by hills so the atmosphere around the lake feel so comfortable fresh and cool. the visitor can enjoy its natural beauty with a swim or rent a motor boat around the lake, in the afternoon visitors can enjoy a more serene atmosphere with spectacular sunset.
in the middle of Toba Lake thre are Samosir island where there is a visitor can get there using ferry.
Toba Lake located in three districts, there are Simalungan, Parapat and Ambarita. in the Lake Toba has complete accommodation like some hotel and other facilities to that support the visitor.
